1 MORE SLEEP - Blind and Blurry - What do I see?

RIGHT EYE            LEFT EYE (GOOD ONE)

These are my eyes. They look normal to the naked eye, pardon the pun, but they are not. My right eye is blind and my left eye is foggy. This means that on a daily basis I have to navigate around the world through a constant blur. I want to write today as tomorrow I am having surgery on my good eye. The reason for my good eye being done first is so I can get a little normality back. To quote the surgeon, "quality of life".

I want to describe what I see now, so that when the surgery is done I can then describe the difference. So lets have a go...

The screen I'm typing on is set to the biggest font possible. I'm even typing in heading mode so I can see it. It's still not clear writing though, in fact it is blurry. The font is meant to be white, but for me it looks more grey with fuzzy edges.

When I look around the room, I can see my picture on the wall of a giraffe. It's a great colourful picture that my friend bought for me. Over the last few months this giraffe has changed. It is no longer bright and colourful, with a happy face, instead it's a blurry shape on a white canvas. I can't see any of its features at all, only the shape. This has been my go to thing which has shown me the decline of my eyes.

Here are my top 10 blurry struggles.

1. Faces disappear and become a head shaped blur.

2. Making tea is tricky as I can't see how high the water is in the cup.

3. Dark colours merge into one another - I put the microphone down on the stage and lost it completely the other day.

4. Bins are the same colour as the floor - I often nearly walk into them.

5. I can't sing at church if I don't know the words. I can't read the words on the massive screen.

6. I often walk into overhanging branches.

7. I have tripped on pavements with inclines as I can't see the difference in depth because the colour stays the same.

8. I can't see white screens or read books. Anything with a white background looks like a plain piece of paper. The black writing disappears.

9. When playing Canasta with my friends, I can't see the difference between King, Queen & Jack.

10. When playing bowls I can't see the jack at all. I can't see the woods after they have left my hand.

I guess the reason for naming these top 10 is because this has been my life for the last 7 months. If I want to be honest with myself I would say it's been a lot longer than that. My right eye has been poorly for some time, I just didn't want to face up to it.

As I look forward to tomorrow's operation. I want to be able to look back on this past year and remember how far I've come. I'm looking forward to seeing peoples faces the most and for colours to be sharper. I can't wait to pick my bible up and open the pages and see the words.

So tomorrow is nearly upon me - at 1:45pm I will have my operation to fix the good eye. I praise God for the surgeon and I pray for her that she will know Christ as her Saviour. God give me the words to share with someone tomorrow your love and grace. See you all in 24 hours #can'twaittoseeyouallagain
