ALL DONE!
I had my second cataract operation Thursday afternoon. It took 30 mins and so was longer than the previous one. It wasn't a pleasant experience, but it wasn't painful - it was just uncomfortable due to the digging around. I've been back to the hospital for a pressure check and everything is going well - Praise God. I decided to write this today as it's all fresh in my head.
At the start of the year I went for prayer for my eyesight. During the time of prayer, I felt God tell me that I would have to have both operations so I could make a difference. So I could share his love with someone. He showed me that someone would ask what my job was and guess what....that happened just moment before the operation!
When you are prepped for surgery you go into a side room with a nurse. My nurse was called Julie, Jules. She was lovely and kept me calm by chatting away to me. She asked me the question, "So what do you do when you are not attending hospital for cataract surgery?" Finally someone had asked the question, finally I knew I had to answer God's call - just before surgery.
"I'm a church minister" I replied. Then she went on to ask about church, she had just begun attending church herself. We had a great conversation about how we are all one church with different ways of worshipping. Then we went into the operating room and she held my hand for the whole time. She made me feel secure and knowing she was there made a big difference to me. Just like the prayers I prayed all the way through.
The operation was different this time. Last time the surgeon talked me through everything he was doing, this time the operation was so complex the surgeon only spoke to those around her telling them what she needed and when. I felt as though I was on the table for hours, but I kept focussing on Jules and more importantly on my Heavenly Father. I prayed and prayed and prayed and then at last after 30 minutes of digging around in my eye it was time to come out of the operating theatre - I had survived!
Jules wheeled me out and told me to take it easy. I couldn't move, I didn't want to sit up, I was shaking from head to foot. Jules told me I had done so well. She explained to me it was a difficult procedure and that I had done really well. I finally plucked up the courage to sit up. It took some doing but we got there and with Jules help I got off the bed and into a wheel chair, and within about 10 minutes I had a cup of coffee and a biscuit on the go. Then they gave me some tablets to help with the pressure build up in my eye. I felt as though I'd been in the ring with Mike Tyson. I asked if Kate could come and sit with me while I waited for them to make sure I was ok and also get my new meds. So finally, I was with my mate, sat outside the theatre all finished.
It's' now two days later and to be honest I am still a little shaky. I don't think I expected this operation to be the same as the first one, but I didn't think it would be as different and my reactions so different too. I feel weak and light-headed, and have double the meds this time. But I know that it's all over now and that I can praise God for all those amazing NHS people who have helped me along the way.
Just to finish, Yesterday I had to go back to see the consultant who did the operation. She wanted to make sure the pressure was ok, which Praise God it was. What a lovely lady she is. I noticed however she was limping, so I told her that I would pray for her leg. So if you are a praying person, can I ask you to pray for my consultant's leg please, her name is Ms Pushpoth. Let's show her that our God loves her and answers her needs too.
I'm going to rest now as I'm a little pooped - see you all on the other side. Thanks everyone. xoxo
